Free Comic Book Day – Tomorrow

Tomorrow — Saturday, May 3, 2008 — is Free Comic Book Day. According to the official website (handy url just provided), Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. (Note: Individual stores will determine the guidelines for distributing of free comic book titles.) Now, regular comic book readers really don’t need to be informed of this event — though it does sometime provide an opportunity to pick up and explore a new title that normally wouldn’t be read. Free Comic Book day is really for the new, or soon-to-be converted, comic book reader.

If you have never set foot in your neighborhood comic book retailer establishment tomorrow is the perfect opportunity. Various comic book publishers have produces special editions of many of their most popular titles to be handed out, absolutely free of charge. While many stores may have appropriate limits on what one potential future customer will be allowed to haul home, most folks that stop by should be able to return home with a number of various titles to give an idea to the novice fan what all these comic books are about.

Parents, this is a great opportunity to score points with the kids. Many of the titles being offered for Free Comic Book Day are for readers of all-ages. So, even if you might be hesitant about taking the kids to see Iron Man because it looks like it might be a little too intense, they can score some free readable swag this weekend — and we can all agree that reading is good.
