Dave Stevens 1955 – 2008

rocketeer3.jpgThe comic book industry has lost a class act and one helluva an artist. Dave Stevens has passed away after a battling Leukemia. Like many people, I first became aware of Dave Stevens in the early ’80s with the publishing of his creator-owned The Rocketeer. Dave also played a part in the renewed interest in ’50s figure model Bettie Page, whose likeness was used for the heroine of The Rocketeer, love-interest Jenny Blake. I can freely admit that Dave’s ’50s-style sci-fi of The Rocketeer, as well as his fantastic “glamor/good girl” art served as inspiration for creating Alpha Bettie. Mark Evanier has expressed in better terms than I, or perhaps anybody can, about Dave Stevens on his blog.
