Star Trek Beams Into Production

star_trek_teaser_poster.jpgAccording to The Trek Movie Report, the upcoming and re-envisioned Star Trek movie began actual shooting today. We’re not talking phasers here — but actual principal photography. Apparently director J.J. Abrams is starting production with location shooting somewhere in Southern California as opposed to being on sets — i.e., aboard the Enterprise. Supposedly, Abrams, along with the cast and crew, will be crossing the writers picket lines next week to begin filming on the Enterprise sets within the sound stages located at the Paramount lot.

In other Star Trek movie news, actor Bruce Greenwood will be tackling the role of Captain Christopher Pike. Greenwood’s previous genre-related work includes roles in films such as I, Robot, The Core, and Deja Vu. I think I remember him from television’s St. Elsewhere.
