Last Of The Pack

bishop.jpgComedian Joey Bishop passed away last night at his home in Newport Beach, CA. Bishop was the last surviving member of the famous (or infamous) Rat Pack — the sixties nightclub quintet sensation. The group also appeared together in such films as the original Ocean’s Eleven and Sergeants 3.

The Rat Pack consisted of members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and comedian, Joey Bishop. They appeared at the Sands in Las Vegas, performing shows that chaotically combined comedy and musical numbers. If the Kennedy’s represented “political” royalty in the sixties, than the Rat Pack represented “entertainment” royalty. Coincidently, the group faded after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, who was given an honorary membership to the group. Also, Bishop served as the master of ceremonies during Kennedy’s inauguration gala.

Outside of the Rat Pack, Joey Bishop had two television shows, both called The Joey Bishop Show. In the first show Bishop played a talk show host. In the second show he was a talk show host.

Joey Bishop was 89.
