Blood Will Tell Has Been Told

September 5, 2007

bwt5cvr.jpgOne of the last IDW series that I served as Editor on was Star Trek: Klingons: Blood Will Tell— a five-issue miniseries that recounted some of the most memorable encounters between the Klingon Empire and the Federation of Planet’sStarfleet , namely one meddlesome Captain Kirk. The series was written by David and Scott Tipton — and to be honest, I was jealous of the two when they landed the gig. You see, I dig Klingons — have since the very beginning. Back in the days of watching The Original Series reruns as a kid, Christopher Lloyd‘s portrayal of Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, the introduction of the first Klingon to serve with Starfleet (Worf) with Star Trek: The Next Generation — Klingons have always had an air of… kick ass to them. But, the Tipton Bros. did a great job with the series. And artist David Messina was a favorite of mine since the early days of my IDW editorial stint when I saw his work on an Angel series.

Even if I hadn’t played a part in putting this project together I could honestly recommend for readers to check the series out. You don’t need to be a die-hard Star Trek fan to enjoy — everybody is familiar enough with Klingons to give it a read and not feel lost. And Star Trek fans, well there’s plenty of “insider” material for you in there for you to enjoy above and beyond the read itself. The fifth and final issue of the series drops tomorrow (08/05/07) at local comic book shops — the collected trade paperback is due to hit shelves in a few months. Qapla’!
