Editor’s Log: Stardate 60478.5*

trekdanblog.gifAnybody that knows me knows that I’m a Star Trek fan. Hell, this is the second post since Semptember (Note: I didn’t post much during the end of last year, with nothing posted at all during the months of November and December) that has the term “Stardate” in the title. Back in September I made reference to Star Trek‘s 40th Anniversary and gushed somewhat about my love for the sci-fi franchise.

2007 marks the 20th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation — which premiered September 28, 1987. Without a doubt, one element of 2007 that I am looking forward to the most is serving as Editor on the line of Star Trek comic books from IDW Publishing.

Short of actually serving aboard a Starfleet starship during the 23rd or 24th century, or more down to Earth, penning Star Trek stories myself, having the opportunity to work on and contribute in an official manner to something that has been such a major part of my life is a pretty sweet gig. Work is still work, but there’s something about going into the office and discussing all things Star Trek for a good part of the day — and getting paid for it — that would make any Trekkie (Orion Slavegirl) green with envy. If I had a glass of Romulan Ale I’d toast to the previous girlfriends who rolled their eyes whenever I got into a debate about Kirk vs. Picard.

The first issue of IDW’s Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between — written by David Tischman, with art by Casey Maloney, colors by Leonard O’Grady, and edited by yours truly — is scheduled to beam into comic book shops on January 24th.

Who knows? Maybe this will be the year that I have a Star Trek story published. After all, I am in good with the editor.

*Note: Actual Stardate may differ according to “cannon” chronology and/or method used in calculation.

I’m actually looking forward to this. ^_^ As much as I longed to love the ‘manga’ of TOS, it just felt…insincere. Not to take away from the creators involved in the manga version, I’m sure they’re all fans in their own right and it was a labor of love–but the manga just failed to make it for me. :/

Can’t wait to check it out!

I’m jealous. Talking about Trek all day and getting money… that is like a dream come true… ;)
BTW: Great you are back on blogging! I haven’t visited for some days now and can read 4 new entries… respect! :)
